Following an announcement by Energy Secretary Ed Miliband last week, millions of landlords face huge bills of up to £15,000 per property to comply with new energy-efficiency standards.
The announcement stated that by 2030, all privately rented properties must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of at least C, up from the existing minimum of E.
The Government estimates that the average cost for these upgrades to landlords is £6,000 per property, and with about half of all rental properties sitting below the C rating, it represents a huge number of landlords who will need to make their properties more energy-efficient.
However, this figure has been disputed by some who suggest the cost could be up a figure of £15,000 per property.
